Stop!
The right to freedom of expression, as Simón Bolívar said well "[public opinion] needs the protection of an enlightened government, which knows that opinion is the source of the most important events." Seeing this, we realize that it is one of the most fundamental rights.
Now we are going to see a little of the Constitution of our country and a country affected by censorship.
Knowing all this, why are most afraid to comment on
anything? Respecting the freedom of others to say anything, no matter how
offensive we consider it, is respecting our own freedom of speech.
We all have the possibility of finding verified information
on any subject and as it properly says in article 19 of the constitution of our
country, every citizen has the right to express their opinion and express their
thoughts freely and in all its forms and manifestations. As long as we do it
responsibly, without harming any individual or company, and if that is the
case, we must do it with evidence.
For a democracy to exist, we must all say what we think, not
keep quiet and then say that it is an injustice.
In this area, journalists are those who face repression and
aggression. Since, sometimes they find more information than they should. For
example, we realized in the National Strike that we lived in October 2019, the
violence that existed against the journalist who only did his job.
"Journalism is not a crime. Media professionals are the
eyes and ears of society. Governments have a duty to ensure that journalists
can freely report on human rights issues without fear of being attacked or
killed while doing their legitimate work. The authorities have a duty to bring
to justice those responsible for the abuses. It is high time that States take
their duties seriously,” said Susanna Flood, director of Amnesty
International's Media Program.
We can also take as an example North Korea, which is the
second most censored country in the world, they do not leave anything there,
only 9% of the population has cell phones. Only a few powerful individuals have
internet connectivity around the world. The rest of the population have access
to an intranet under strict controls.
In my opinion, we do not have to be afraid to speak, since that happens to many of us and I include myself. From now on, I invite you to give our opinion on any topic or thing, without fear of criticism, since we all have to support each other and so we can get ahead.
